My DoggieLawn arrived! What now?

When your DoggieLawn arrives, use the disposable gloves (which come with every new delivery for rolled grass replacements) to unroll the grass onto your tray (if you've purchased one or have your own).

Because DoggieLawn is natural live grass, you do not need to 'clean' it as it will absorb and break down most of your pup's urine! Just remember to remove pet solids daily just like you would on a walk!

When your next shipment arrives, put on the gloves to roll up the old grass, place it in a garbage bag and throw it away in the trash. Then unroll the new grass out onto your tray. Voila! A fresh pet potty, as simple as that. (This step is not needed for Disposable DoggieLawns that include a cardboard tray as this can simply be tossed in the trash without any clean up involved!)

Watch our un-boxing videos for help on how to set up your first DoggieLawn once its delivered.

Where should I keep my DoggieLawn?

DoggieLawns are best kept in a spot that is well lit and has good air circulation! However, it ultimately can be kept anywhere as it is made to be disposed of after a certain period of time and not last indefinitely. The root bedding is what absorbs urine, but is hydrophobic, which means it allows water to evaporate quickly. Putting the DoggieLawn in an area with good air circulation is not mandatory, but will help extend the life of the lawn.

If you do keep your grass on a balcony or outdoors, we definitely recommend covering or moving the grass inside while it rains and/or snows. This is because our grass is designed to absorb liquid from your pet and to prevent you from having to do any dirty clean up work. In order for your grass to continue doing its job, we recommend your DoggieLawn stay out of inclement weather to keep it from being over saturated. A great solution is to purchase our DoggieLawn Tent! This will help keep the grass squish-free and allow your dog to continue using the lawn outside without getting wet!

How will I know when to replace my grass?

You'll know it's time to change the grass when your dog starts peeing on the edge of the lawn. That means the grass is too saturated with their own scent and they're looking for a fresh spot to "go!" One thing to keep in mind is that your lawn might be green, yellow, brown, or somewhere in-between when time to be replaced! The color of the DoggieLawn does not determine if it is fully saturated.

If you find any smell starting to come from your grass, you can use any enzymatic spray to neutralize the smell.  We sell Odor Neutralizers like Skout's Honor Pet Odor Eliminator that you may want to check out! Simply spray this on your lawn every other day to help mitigate any odors!

How long does it typically last?

Regarding lifespan, think of the lawn as a sponge The lawn performs best when it’s dry (we recommend to only light mist it with water as needed so that it stays thirsty). If you want it to stay green longer, you can mist it with a spray bottle every couple days. But that really is looks over function.

Under normal use, the grass will eventually saturate and need to be thrown away after 1-4 weeks (varies by frequency of use and size and number of dogs). That said, you'll know it's time to change the grass when you notice urine starting to pool in the tray or when your dog starts peeing on the edge of the lawn. That means the grass is too saturated with their own scent and they're looking for a fresh spot to "go!"

How do I clean my reusable tray?

Regular maintenance cleaning only requires 1:1 water + vinegar mixture. You can also use dawn dish soap too!

If you find any smell starting to come from your tray, you can use any enzymatic spray to help neutralize the smell. We do not advise using strong chemical as they can be degrade the material overtime and cause a strong odor that can be unhealthy for your fur baby since they are more sensitive to smells.
